More information about LUMI:

LUMI is a unique endeavour thanks to its scale, sustainability and pan-European nature. Like all supercomputers, LUMI is a tool for data-based R&I, enabling scientific breakthroughs and industrial innovations in various fields. What sets LUMI apart from other supercomputers is that it does this more efficiently, with less burden on the environment and for the benefit of all of Europe.

At the time of its inauguration, LUMI will be Europe’s most powerful supercomputer. It will be able to process data faster than any other European machine, thereby accelerating the pace of research to create new knowledge and solutions to global societal challenges, such as pandemics and climate change. Thanks to LUMI’s green features, such as being powered by renewable energy, using free cooling and re-using waste heat for local district heating, these power-intensive tasks can be done in an exceptionally eco-efficient way.

LUMI is owned by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking and hosted by a consortium of 10 countries with a long tradition and knowledge in scientific computing. Thanks to this collaborative structure, researchers everywhere in Europe can apply for access to LUMI’s resources, spreading its benefits to the whole continent.
