The first phase of LUMI has been installed

Despite the challenging times in the world, the LUMI system deployment has progressed mostly as planned.

Summer in Finland was exceptionally hot, and CSC’s data center in Kajaani was full of action when the first phase of the system installations started. The first phase of LUMI, consisting of the CPU partition, storage systems, and an Early Access Platform for preparing applications for the GPU partition installed later this year, were shipped from the HPE factory in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, USA, and reached its destination in Kajaani, Finland, on time.

An international team of engineers, with the help of CSC’s own HPC experts, installed the system to the newly built data center for LUMI during the summer months.

The second installation phase towards the end of the year will bring LUMI to its full grandeur, including the GPU partition. Both installation phases are concluded with acceptance testing and pilot use.
